Half Marathon For Mental Health

Written By on April 17, 2019

Who would have thought running would be so hard!? There is just such fatigue in the battle to wake up early, get out of bed, lace the shoes up and put your body through something so difficult only to do it over and over again. As I continued to train, I became mindful that there are people who have a hard enough time getting past step 2: Getting out of bed. This struck me so strongly that I knew I had to do something about it.

As some of you may know, I’m training for a half marathon. However, my past experiences with training would quite frankly show you that I am not a runner. July of 2018, I found myself struggling to run 2 Kilometres and knew I had to do something about it. So I thought, why not pick a lofty goal of running a half marathon a year later. I will be running the Lululemon SeaWheeze Half Marathon on August 17, 2019 in Vancouver,BC.

As I begin to train and face this battle daily, I’m mindful that there are people who face a much more severe battle daily. Many people face mental health battles daily and it comes in various forms. In my training for the half marathon, I wanted to partner the efforts with fundraising for the Canadian Mental Health Association. I am encouraging all of you to please follow the link below and donate! Even if you were to donate $1.00, you have made a tremendous contribution towards the fund and towards raising awareness around mental health. The fun part of it is anyone donating over $5.00 will be entered into a draw to win a $150 Lululemon gift card.

I want us all to work towards bringing light to mental health issues and raising awareness for support that is out there. As a person, I have lost people in my life as they have lost their battle to mental health issues. As a coach, I have coached many athletes who deal with this battle.

Thank you all so much for your support! Please donate at the link below and share the link on your social media to help raise awareness!
